Drone films and flies over Chernobyl

Drone flies over Chernobyl.

Danny Cook films Chernobyl with a Drone. Image Source: TwitterDanny Cook made this amazing film called “Postcards from Pripyat, Chernobyl”. A combination between aerial  (taken from a drone) and urbex shots over this devastated area.  On 26 April 1986, the Chernobyl disaster took place. An explosion and fire released large quantities of radioactive particles into the atmosphere. This video gives you a clear view of a place where time stood still for 28 years.

DJI sets new drone standard with the Inspire 1

Yes, you can watch this movie in 4K

The shapeshifting 4K video shooting quadcopter

My first encounter with DJI was 6 years ago when we ordered an autopilot to shoot aerial video and images with single rotor helicopter. More than satisfied I’ve been following this company with great interest and their ability to surprise me each time when they release a new product. Some days ago I heard about the DJI Inspire 1 and yes I was stunned with their next innovation. Is this going to be the next generation of drones? Some specs:

DJI Inspire 1

  • Shoots 4K video @ 30 fps
  • 12 MP aerial Photos
  • 3-axis Gimbal
  • 2,9 Kg
  • 4500 mAh battery (18 mins flytime)
  • Dual operator control (pilot and camera)
  • Fly indoors with Optical Flow Technology
  • Price: $2899

DJI Inspire One

Shapeshifter from the future?

And yes it also looks like a shapeshifting, futuristic, aerodynamic must have gadget. (Dear Santa?) What surprised me most is the transforming design in combination with it’s functionality. During a flight the quadcopter can change its configuration to give you a 360 degree aerial view without any obstructions. Can’t wait to see this amazing innovation.

A stunning aerial film from Mexico City International Airport. Filmed by a drone this shows you an unique view of an airport. “with the permission and supervision of the Mexico City International Airport authorities, and in close contact with the control tower and pilots”. With a very important statement: Never fly close to airports.

The film was shot with DJI F450, Zenmuse H3-3D gimbal and GoPro Hero 3 Black.

Flying Ambulance Drone delivers defibrillator

Flying Ambulance Drone delivers defibrillator

“Graduate student Alec Momont of TU Delft has designed an unmanned, autonomously navigating mini aeroplane that can quickly deliver a defibrillator to where it is needed. A network of such drones could significantly increase the chance of survival following a cardiac arrest: from 8% to 80%!

Via a livestream video and audio connection, the drone can also provide direct feedback to the emergency services and the persons on site can be instructed how to treat the patient. The drone finds the patient’s location via the caller’s mobile phone signal and makes its way there using GPS. The drone can fly at around 100 km/h, weighs 4 kg and can carry another 4 kg.
